Tech Tip: Use Chrome Reading Mode for Distraction-Free Browsing
Google Chrome’s Reading Mode lets you strip away ads, pop-ups, and clutter, turning busy web pages into a clean, easy-to-read format. It’s ideal for focusing on content without distractions.
On desktop, Reading Mode opens in a side panel, while on Android it displays as a simplified full-screen view. You can adjust font style, size, spacing, and background colour for a more comfortable reading experience.
A standout feature is the built-in read-aloud option. With a single click, Chrome uses AI-powered text-to-speech to read the page while highlighting the text, making it useful for multitasking, reducing eye strain, or improving accessibility.
How to use it (Desktop)
Open a web page in Chrome
Click the three-dot menu (top right)
Go to More tools > Reading mode
Customise the view or press play to listen
How to use it (Android)
Tap the three-dot menu
Select Reading mode (or Simplified view)
Adjust settings or tap play to hear it read aloud
